I really like this set of life hacks! Lately I’ve been working on taking better care of myself and figured that this card set could help guide me on my self-care journey. Honestly, I’ve actually been feeling a lot better since I started following these life hacks. I normally pull one card out at the start of each day and follow the life hack that’s on that card for the rest of the day.
These cards have a lot of good advice on them, but you need to keep an open mind when using this set as some of the tips may seem a little odd or kind of obvious. On the surface some of these “hacks” seem a little basic (ex. Breathe, Drink more water, Be kind to yourself). However, it’s a lot of these little simple things that most people overlook in their everyday lives. I’ve found that a lot of these cards have really solid self-care tips that can help you lead a happier, more productive life but you have to be willing to follow them. Some of the tips I've found to be most helpful include 1) Take a break from devices 2) Establish a daily routine and 3) Watch a show or do an activity that makes you laugh.
A lot of the hacks are fairly easy to do (ex. Practice empathy, Dance to relieve stress, etc.). However, some of them do require a little more time and effort (ex. Join a support group, Host a small gathering, etc.). A few of the tips seem a little odd but they did actually work for me when I tried them. An example of this is Hack #70 which says, “Practice grounding by walking barefoot today. Walking barefoot on natural surfaces can help you connect with the earth and reduce stress. Spend a few minutes today walking barefoot on grass, sand, or soil.” To do this, I just went out and walked around on the grass in my backyard for a few minutes.
Each card has two life hacks on it, one on the front and one on the back. In addition to the actual life hack, there’s a quote on the bottom of each card that relates to that card’s specific self-care tip. I really like that they include these quotes as it just feels like a nice extra touch that really drives home the message of the card. Regarding card quality, the cards feel very sturdy and the font style they chose is easy to read. However, I wish they had chosen a different colored font for the hack at the top of the card. A lot of the cards are various blue/purple shades and the font for the actual hack written at the top is a very similar shade so it can be a little hard to read at times.
Overall, I really like these cards and have found that they’ve helped me develop some healthy habits!
